A charging e-bike battery sends a warning before it fails.

A standard power board can't protect you. An RVT sees it coming.

Charging is one of the most common moments a lithium battery fails, in e-bikes, scooters and EVs alike. A failing battery sends a signal first. An RVT catches it and cuts the power, before the shock, before the fire, before the battery gets the chance to burn.

The standard power board reacts. A RVT sees it coming.

The safety switch in your home was built for a world of toasters and kettles. It waits for something to go wrong, then trips. An RVT watches the power itself and acts on the warning signs, before the fault becomes one.

Every fault announces itself first. A change in the waveform, a leak in the current, the early signs of a lithium battery heading toward thermal runaway. An RVT is built to catch those signs and isolate the power in 20 milliseconds. The standard power board never sees them until it could be too late.*

PROVEN IN THE FIELD

Eight years protecting Sydney Water crews.

This is not a concept. RVT technology has protected Sydney Water field crews for more than eight years in wet, demanding, real-world conditions. In all that time, a perfect safety record. Let the proof do the boasting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I charge a battery safely?

Most lithium battery fires start while charging, or just after.

Where: Charge in a garage, shed or carport if you can. Never in a hallway, doorway or stairwell, or anywhere that blocks your way out. Always on a hard surface like concrete or tile. Never on a bed, sofa or carpet.

How: Only use the charger that came with the device. Check it has the Australian Regulatory Compliance Mark. Unplug it once it's full, because sitting on the charger builds heat. Don't charge overnight or while you're out.

Stop straight away if the battery is swelling, leaking, cracked, dented, or hot to the touch. Move it outside, at least three metres from the house. Never bin it, and never take a damaged battery to a recycling drop off. Call your council or the manufacturer.

I already have a safety switch. What does an RVT do that it doesn't?

Your safety switch reacts. An RVT sees it coming.

A safety switch was built for a world of toasters and power tools. It waits for a fault to hit a set level, then trips. Lithium batteries, chargers and inverters fault in ways that standard was never written for.

Your switchboard safety switch

  • Trips at 30 mA
  • Isolates in up to 40 ms
  • Reacts once the fault is already there
  • Can't see heat building in the charging circuit
  • Needs an earth to work properly

An RVT

  • Trips at 10 mA, three times safer
  • Isolates in 20 ms, twice as fast
  • Catches the fault as it forms
  • Reduces heat build up in the charging circuit

No earth needed, so it works on generators, solar and battery power
Heat is what turns a tired battery into a fire, and it builds long before anything trips. An RVT reduces that build up. A safety switch can't even see it.

Keep your safety switch. The RVT is the layer between your charger and everything you care about.

Can I use it with my EV charger?

Yes, if your charger plugs into a wall socket.

Most home EV charging in Australia uses a portable charger and a standard outlet. Plug that charger into the RVT instead of the wall, and the car charges exactly as before, with the RVT watching the whole time.

If your charger is a wallbox hardwired into your switchboard, an RVT can't sit in front of it. There's nothing to plug in. For those, look at our switchboard RVT.

Does it work on a generator, solar or battery power?

Yes, and it doesn't need an earth stake.

Most portable safety switches need a solid earth to work properly, which makes them unreliable on generators and off grid setups. An RVT watches the power itself. Same protection at home on the mains, on a generator at a work site, off an inverter in a van, or on solar and battery off grid.

Sydney Water crews have run RVT units on generators without earth stakes for over eight years, with a 100% safety record.

Voltage range: 110 to 250V.

How many things can I plug in at once?

Four. Everything plugged into any of the four outlets is protected by the same device.

The bike, the scooter, the tools and the trickle charger, all watched at once.

Keep the total load across all four under 10 amps. For most homes that's comfortably more than a few chargers running together. If you're charging several batteries at once, or an EV charger alongside anything else, add up the ratings first.

Do I need an electrician to install it?

No. It plugs into a standard wall socket, and your chargers plug into it. Nothing to wire, nothing to mount.

If you'd rather have RVT protection built into the house, covering every outlet on the circuit, that's the switchboard version, and that one does need an electrician.

My RVT tripped. What do I do?

To reset it:

  1. Unplug everything from the RVT
  2. Switch the RCD back on
  3. Press the blue button on the front

Now plug your gear back in, one item at a time.

If it trips with nothing plugged in, the fault is in the unit. Contact your reseller. Don't keep resetting it.

If it trips while charging a battery, nothing is wrong with the RVT. It's doing exactly what you bought it for.

Stop charging that battery. Unplug it and move it somewhere safe, outside if you can, away from the house. Don't keep resetting to force the charge through.

Try a different charger on the same RVT. If that one holds, the charger is your problem. If it keeps tripping, call the battery or device manufacturer and tell them it's faulting during charge.

A battery that repeatedly faults on charge is usually near the end of its life and needs replacing.

Is the RVT approved for sale in Australia?

Yes. The RVT holds [CERTIFICATE TYPE AND NUMBER], issued by [ISSUING BODY] on [DATE], and carries the Regulatory Compliance Mark. It's tested to [STANDARD].

Every unit is tested before it leaves us.

What does the warranty cover, and what if I change my mind?

Warranty. Two years from the date of purchase, covering faults in materials and workmanship. If your RVT develops a fault, get in touch with your order number and we'll repair or replace it. It doesn't cover misuse, modification, or the unit being opened.

This sits on top of the rights you already have. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

Changed your mind. Return it unused and in its original packaging within 30 days for a refund, [less return postage]. Contact us first so we can send you a return address.

What we can't take back. Any unit that's been opened, modified or damaged.

Your family sleeps. An RVT doesn't.

Lithium batteries do their charging when nobody's watching

The RVT is. It listens for the warning every fault sends first and cuts the power the moment it hears one.

Before the shock, before the fire, before it ever becomes more than a warning.
